Fibroids On Uterus

fibroids on uterus
I’m Nervous! Anyone with hysterectomy experience?

Have decided on hysterectomy for the fibroids (thanks for y’all’s input). They are going to have to use a transverse incision as everything (uterus, fibroids etc) is to big to go vaginally. Anyone who has been through this & would care to share about the experience? I’ve never even broken a bone before & have no hospital experience.
I have considered options but with family history, my age & no desire for children this is the best option.
I am only having the uterus removed, will keep ovaries, cervix etc as they are healthy & don’t want to take hormones.

Prepare for a Partial Hysterectomy

Step 1 Understand that after a partial hysterectomy you may still experience monthly bleeding and pain. Material left in the lower part of the uterus may mimic the menstrual cycle even though the majority of the uterus is gone.

Step 2 Realize that any time you change the balance amongst the reproductive organs, menopause or menopause-like symptoms can occur. An interruption or decrease in blood flow to the ovaries and fallopian tubes can cause them to stop functioning or function less efficiently.

Step 3 Acknowledge the limitations of a partial hysterectomy. Removing a portion of the uterus may not alleviate all of your symptoms. Tissue left behind can aggravate other conditions.

Step 4 Learn that partial hysterectomies are mainly used to treat endometriosis as well as small fibroids and polyps. They are not indicated for wide spread disease of any sort and particularly not for cancer.

Step 5 Discuss with your doctor the possibility of a laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy (LSH). The recovery time for LSH is even shorter than that for a traditional partial hysterectomy and the procedure leaves minimal scarring.

Step 6 Prepare to deal with a feeling of loss due to the end of your reproductive capability. The less invasive and severe nature of a partial hysterectomy does not mean that you will not face these emotions.

I had a complete hysterectomy in 1996. If I were going through this surgery, I would have the cervix removed to at least stop having periods every month. My doctors told me that leaving the ovaries usually causes an additional surgery in five years to remove them.

hope this helps..
