Fibroid Surgery Options
fibroid tumors and pregnancy?
In October (this year) I had a miscarriage. In the er they performed a vaginal ultrasound. They found a decent sized fibroid tumor on my uterus. My doctor told me I need to see a different doctor to discuss my options.
Does anyone else have these? Were you able to carry a child full-term? I’m worried that If I get pregnant again I’ll miscarry. I’m sure my best option is surgery, but It terrifies me (I’ve had surgeries before but I was young).
Thank you.
Fibroid tumors can grow rapidly during pregnancy, taking up the space in the uterus and hindering the growth of the foetus.
They can also degenerate and bleed which can cause you, the mother, to experience pain, nausea, and other side effects varying from mild to severe.
Women who have fibroid tumors in their uteruses are only slightly more likely to miscarry or have preterm labour than women who do not have them.
That all being said, they are generally only problematic for about 20% of women so there is a good chance that your miscarriage was not, in fact, caused by your fibroids. It really depends on where in your uterus the fibroids are and how large they are.
The best thing do to, in your case, would be to seek further medical attention from a gynaecologist. You may not need surgery to remove them. There are actually medications (pills, I believe) that shrink your fibroids.
Sorry about your miscarriage, I’ve had two and I understand what you are going through.
Good luck!
