I am 25 years old. When I was 20 years old it was discovered that I had bilateral cystic teratomas (two tumors, one on each ovary) and they were causing me a lot of issues. They suggested having surgery and removing them because they would continue to grow and cause pain and the more they grew the more of the ovary they would cover and the harder it would be to have them removed. So I went along with the surgery and had them removed. When they were removed and afterwards, my doctor also told me they discovered that I had a fibroid as well and went ahead and removed it too. All of this was checked for cancers and everything else. If I were you, I would ask my doctor about the chances of this fibroid maybe being cancerous, or causing any other complications. But if it were me, I would probably have it removed so it could be tested for cancer, especially if this kind of thing runs in your family history of cancer or ovarian or uterin cancer. Your options should really be discussed with your doctor. If you do not trust your doctor, because they have seemed to have led you down a wrong path before, get a second opinion. It can be easily seen by and ultrasound by another doctor. Don’t always take the conclusion from one doctor unless you truly believe in their judgement.
