Breakthrough Bleeding Fibroids

Going off the pill after 10 years and worried about side effects?

I am 33 and my tubes are tied, I am on the pill for period regulation only. This is my 11th type of pill I have tried they work great for a few months then I have breakthrough bleeding and spotting periodically throughout the month, I have had all tests done regarding fibroids, bleeding disorders, and endo and have been clear. I am thinking about quitting them all together but I am worried my system will be so screwed up I will get my period and it will never end. Has anyone quit after such a long time of usage?

It is a scary prospect to come off the Pill after so long, but it probably really is a good idea for your body to be in its natural state, especially if you don’t need it for contraception.

While the Pill is great at regulating periods and clearing up some of the PMS associated problems, in the long term it probably is better if you don’t take it. While it has good and bad points, there is a good chance you might feel better for not taking it?

The breakthrough bleeding and trial of all the different pills does not sound like fun at all and it’s probably best to see how your body reacts when it’s left to its own devices! Surely breakthrough bleeding all the time isn’t any worse then perhaps an irregular cycle. It’s unlikely you will have constant bleeding, and in theory, the Pill shouldn’t “screw up” your body long term. The medical opinion is that it does leave your body and all its effects are reversible….I guess we’ll only see in time after more generations have taken it but there’s no reason so far to think your body will have been irreversibly changed by it.

I would come off it, and see what happens. Worst case scenario you have to try another Pill brand in a few months time but it’s surely better to give your body a chance. You might find that it works out ok which would be great!! :-)

As you have had all the tests too that is good news that there is nothing wrong. Did you test for PCOS too? (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)?

Well, I really hope it works out….I’ve included a website below that’s good reading, perhaps a bit extreme but shows very good reasons not to take the Pill (unless you need it for contraception).

Hope this helps :-)
