Fibroid Removal?

Good morning,

The first time I ever concieved I was 19 Years old that eneded in a misscarriage. I was very fearful of the doctor( Knowing that he is the person that could only help me)….. After the miscarriage I was scared to try and concieve right away. For the last three years I have been trying and nothing happens, finally after I went to have a paps smear in January I told the Dr. that I have pain after Menstral cycles. I took a vaginal ultrasound and my god I had a fibroid. The DR. suggest that I have it removed. If anyone experience this or know anyone will this cause any infertilty issues or will this be the best for me to concieve. I really appreciate everyones answers.

Dr. Also told me the fibroid is blocking and causing me not to concieve.

Make sure to get a second opinion, best to go to a women’s hospital/physician and a fertility specialist-they see tons of these :) (Lots of gyno’s do hysterectomy’s for them and in many cases shouldn’t). Did you have a fertility test done, to see if your tubes are open? They do it in the X-ray dept. and they can tell if the fibroid is interfering or not. They actually push a dye into the fallopian tube and can see how it travels with the x-ray. It may or may not be the problem. Did your partner have a sperm count?
Is your dr a fertility specialist?
As far as the fibroid, if you were just dx with it, You may be able to monitor it, and surgery depends on its growth and IF it is interfering. They can be the size of oranges and not be in the way… but if growing in some people, especially small framed people they can be a problem. Some can be attached to the wall were the bladder is and cause urinary symptoms. They may or may not interfere with fertility-but they can.
You are young… in older women they stop growing and shrink with menopause. It is a muscle like growth and not a cancer. I had the surgery and another came back- I bought 3 years time in waiting and having the surgery before a hyster. Most women don’t do much with them… You can always repeat the sonogram and see how big it is getting and if it is growing fast. Some are the size of large grapefruits and larger. I know it stinks to be in that position! When I went to the first Dr. for my yearly check up) the Dr that was going to remove mine-his recorded indicated that I was scheduled for a hysterectomy! I couldn’t believe it…. The reason I had gone for a second opinion was that my nursing instructor – at the time, referred me to a great specialist and I know had I gone with the first Dr. he would have done a complete hyster. Good luck with things. I would get a second opinion, watch and repeat ultrasounds and review the options and risks that your doc gives you. I have been told that approx. 50 percent of us get them so don’t worry too much. I know it can be scary.
